Global online campaigning

Avaaz – meaning “voice” in several European, Middle Eastern and Asian languages— is an online organisation with over thirty million members that empowers global citizens to campaign on a range of issues from corruption and poverty to conflict and climate change.

di:ga first worked with Avaaz on their campaign for a fairer media environment in the UK. We consulted with lawyers and media ownership experts to find ways to block Rupert Murdoch’s proposed takeover of BSkyB. Avaaz members submitted hundreds of thousands of letters to parliament and we staged protests and stunts, which were widely reported upon in the UK and beyond. Avaaz’s campaign helped slow down government approval of the sale until the hacking scandal emerged, after which the bid was rejected.

Later, Avaaz asked di:ga to help them gain more general media coverage of their mission and their ways of working in influential, thought-leadership media. Our work resulted in a number of high–profile features including the front cover of one of our favourite publications, Intelligent Life, as well as pieces in G2 and Le Monde, and interviews on BBC Hardtalk, BBC 5 Live and The Forum.

Amy was a total pleasure to work with. Full of great ideas on strategy and tactics, she contacted senior barristers, company execs, Avaaz members and journalists at a rapid clip and with great results.
